Presented at City Grand Round on 29th November 2010 by Dr Omar Hasan Kasule Sr MB ChB MUK), MPH (Harvard), DrPH (Harvard) Professor of Epidemiology and Bioethics Faculty of Medicine King Fahad Medical City omarkasule@yahoo.com okasule@kfmc.med.sa, hp 0548867916.

Patients have a right to full disclosure for making informed decisions. In practice physician uncertainty and conflict of honesty with the obligation to give hope may force physicians into telling half-truths or what are termed technical lies. The grand round will address associated moral issues using case studies and general conclusions will be developed.

New Trends for KFMC City Grand Rounds (CGR)

City Grand Rounds were put as part of CME needs in KFMC.  CME Department has reviewed the CGR in the past few years as regard the content number of attendants and the nature of speaker.

The main concern was not to repeat the same content that shows in other CME activities and that CGR attracts a maximum number of City staff and it addresses general rather than specialized issues.

We, in CME are putting the following trends for future CGR.

-          General topics in health rather than specialized in medicine will be encouraged
-          Parallel interests of senior KFMC to be encouraged and given chance
-          Complementary title in health and health practice will be encouraged.
-          Topics that will touch the interest of majority of KFMC will also be encouraged
-          We will also encourage attendance of interest professionals from outside KFMCs.

Examples:
§  Ethics in health practice
§  Islamic Medicine
§  Contribution of Muslim Scholars in Medicine
