0810L - CASE ANALYSIS: HARUN SALLEH

Print Friendly and PDFPrint Friendly

Background
Harun Salleh had bladder cancer causing intermittent hematuria. He did not want to miss his prayers but yet he believed that any blood would nullify his ablution. He went to the hospital with the sole objective of getting the doctors to stop the blood. At the hospital, a detailed history was taken and extensive investigations were carried out. No one seemed to pay attention to his concern about prayers. They treated him with radiotherapy and asked him to come back for follow-up. He did not understand the purpose of the treatment. When he realized that hamaturia continued despite the treatment he saw no reason to return to the hospital for follow up.

Discussion issue
1. Discuss ethico-legal issues in this case
2. Describe how a patient with intermittent hematuria can pray
