250711P - OBJECTIVES OF THE WORKSHOP ON PROPOSAL WRITING

Presented at the Mission Academy Research Summer School on July 15, 2025; by Dr Omar Hasan Kasule Sr MB ChB (MUK), MPH (Harvard), DrPH (Harvard), Professor of Epidemiology and Chairman of the Institutional Review Board at King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz University Hospital, Princess Noura University.


By the end of the workshop, the learner will be able to use a research proposal template - 1

1. Define a research proposal and its sections.

2. Practice literature review as looking up articles and assessing previous background publications on the research subject, ending with the identification of the knowledge gap.

3. Practice constructing research aims, objectives, and questions (hypotheses, propositions, and specific questions).

4. Understand the 3 types of observational studies and 2 types of experimental study designs, and be able to write the study design of a simple study. 

5. Compare methods of data collection, data management, and data analysis.


By the end of the workshop, the learner will be able to use a research proposal template - 2

6. Demonstrate writing sections on the study population and the study sample and its selection,

7. Demonstrate the management plan, budget, and time chart of the research project

8. Categorize the types of research and respective IRB submission forms (exempt, expedited, full)

9. List the documents submitted to IRB 

10. Appraise the criteria of IRB approval of research proposals
