Presentation held at the Sultan Ahmad Shah Medical Center Kuantan on 21 June 2023 by Prof Omar Hasan Kasule MB ChB (MUK), MPH (Harvard), DrPH (Harvard).
THE CONCEPT OF TASKHIR
- The word taskhiir is repeated in the Qur’an 33 times in various formulations.
- Taskhir is the basis of the human mission of Khilafah and Omran.
THE NATURE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
- Humans throughout history have been able to make tools that help them in taskhiir.
- Only humans have been able to make tools.
- The performance of the tools was known by the maker in advance i.e. predictable even if it performed tasks that the human could not perform.
- Artificial intelligence can pass the limits of human control or prediction.
IS THE LOSS OF TASHIIR POSSIBLE?
- Artificial intelligence can learn on its own from the environment and the human may lose control of this learning.
- Artificial intelligence can act on its learning to perform tasks or produce goods and services.
- We are facing the possibility of humans losing their privileges of taskhiir.
- The human could be under the control of the machine.
- Is artificial intelligence stoppable?
LOSS OF PROFESSIONAL ACCOUNTABILITY OF THE PHYSICIAN
- The physician is accountable for the outcomes of medical treatment.
- Physician error is a legal liability.
- If the patient is harmed due to a decision by artificial intelligence who is responsible?
