DEFINITION
• Review several articles
• Critique the articles
• Summarize or synthesize the articles in a qualitative way
PROCESS OF SYSTEMATIC REVIEW
• Define the research question
• Define databases (e.g. PubMed) from which articles will be selected
• Define criteria of selecting articles for review
• Assess the quality of each article mainly the methods
• Combine the data from various articles in a previously defined systematic method
• Present and interpret data summary results as a paper
STRENGTHS OF SYSTEMATIC REVIEW
• Provide a summary view for a reader who has no time to read many articles
• Provide a synthesis of diverse and sometimes contradictory articles
WEAKNESSES OF SYSTEMATIC REVIEW
• Important articles may be missed during the search
• Misses unpublished material
• The review is subjective and may be biased
• Maybe outdated
